When the Bates’ first show, The United Bates of America aired, I for one was ecstatic. Their family is so refreshing…….from the sweet and pleasant Kelly, the joyous Gil, and their adorable (if somewhat precocious) children. I loved their country charm and how they managed to stay so calm and cheerful in their overwhelming childrearing adventures. Just like the Duggars, they are such an inspiration to me!
And then it got cancelled. A lot of fans were really let down by the reviews, and the so-called reason that it was taken off the air. “Too tame”, “Not enough drama”, “Sugary sweet overload”, were the consensus of their humble and faith-filed lives. Who would want to be entertained watching God-fearing normal people live their lives based on values, love, and gentleness. I would, that’s who. The Duggars and the Bates bring inspiration to a lot of Christian families who wish there was another way to live in this cold and cynical world. Not enough nudie people or bad language, I guess.
Kelly still updates her fans on the famly’s blog, which you can read here: http://thebatesfamily.com/ so we got to see three of their children get married; Erin married Chad Paine, Zach married Whitney Perkins, and Alyssa married John Webster. She told us of the courtship between her oldest beautiful daughter, Michael and Brandon Keilen……though there is no news of engagement or marriage yet, they are still together and happy.
It seems that others felt the loss of their show was just as sad, because the network UP has chosen to create a new show and air 13 episodes for our enjoyment, encouragement and pleasure! The new show is called, Bringing Up Bates, and I am thrilled to say it is just as good, if not better than the first. So far, only one episode has aired and it was awesome. Lots of mishaps, kids running around everywhere, an expectant Whitney and Alyssa, and tons of love. I must say though, that watching Erin and Chad express their sorrow about the miscarriage she suffered was heartbreaking. Poor things……I pray they conceive soon.
Can’t wait to see what’s in store next 🙂
