Cleaning the Hobbit Hole Part 3…….Monthly Deep Cleaning Schedule

193141

In addition to my weekly cleaning schedule, which you can read about here: https://raisingservantsofchrist.com/2014/06/10/cleaning-the-hobbit-hole-part-2-our-weekly-cleaning-schedule/ I also have a monthly cleaning schedule that I follow. With so many people in the house, it needs extra attention from month to month to keep it sparkling. I cannot accomplish these chores on a weekly basis, which goes back to all of those people living here, because I simply do not have the time in between schooling, nurturing, cooking, diapering, laundry, snuggling……you get the picture 🙂  Carving out a few extra hours each month to tend to monthly home maintenance and a deeper clean, allows my home to be the cozy little Hobbit Hole of my dreams.

Here is what we set out to accomplish each month (at the end of each month, on cleaning day, we complete our regular weekly cleaning, but add the following monthly chores):

FOYER:

1.  Sweep the ceiling and corners free of cobwebs.
2. Scrub down front door, door jams and baseboards.

LIVING ROOM:

1. Sweep the ceiling and corners free of cobwebs.
2. Test smoke detectors, replacing batteries if needed.
3. Remove air filter and discard. Vacuum out air vent, sweep air vent cover, and replace with fresh air filter.
4. Wash all windows.
5. Move all furniture (except large book cases) and vacuum under.
6. Hose vacuum all baseboards.

DINING ROOM:

1. Sweep the ceiling and corners free of cobwebs.
2. Wash window.
3. Move all furniture (except piano and china cabinet).
4. Hose vacuum all baseboards.
5. Wash dog toys.

HALLWAY:

1. Sweep the ceiling and corners free of cobwebs.
2. Hose vacuum all baseboards.
3. Test smoke detectors, replacing batteries if needed.

KITCHEN, LAUNDRY ROOM & BATHROOMS:

**We deep clean the kitchen and bathrooms every month. Extra attention is therefore only needed during quarterly maintenance.

BEDROOMS:

1. Sweep the ceiling and corners free of cobwebs.
2. Wash all windows.
3. Move all furniture, except for the teens and adult beds, and vacuum under.
4. Hose vacuum all baseboards.

GARAGE:

1. Scrub out potato bins and onion bin.
2. Scrub outside of refrigerator and freezer.
3. Scrub any stain or spots on garage floor.
4. Take any outgrown clothes/shoes to storage.
5. Take any donations to Good Will.

Simple right? Going the extra mile pays big in a clean and lovely home!

Next up is, ‘Cleaning the Hobbit Hole, Part 4……Quarterly Home Maintenance Schedule’. This event in our home is part ‘Spring Cleaning’, part home maintenance, and part home repairs. It’s a big deal in our house, and everyone pitches in!
